Norma's Poetry
I Imagine!

The poem you are about to read has a story, unlike the others, posted on this site.

While the other poems portray Christian-living and promote Jesus' love, this one examine's the hearts emotions.

Though it sounds like a fairy-tale, I am assured that it it indeed true! I will relate the story to you as I know it.

A man lived a full life in one country, serving his God and treasuring his family.
He worked all day from dawn to dusk and would retire early each night, resting up for the day ahead.

Meanwhile, a lady who may as well have lived on the other side of the world, was raising a family of her own. She, too, served her God to the best of her ability.

Then, one day, through a unique set of circumstances, they met.
Neither realized that their lives would never be quite the same again.

They kept in touch, on occasion, as time continued to pass by so swiftly.
Soon afterwards, they were communicating almost daily. They developed a close friendship.

He continued to hold his family tight, as did she. He continued to serve his God, and so did she.

But, as time continued on, they realized they could not forget about each other. Their bond seemed unable to be broken, for it was stronger than most.
Though their friendship did not take precedence over their families or their respective relationships with God, for better or worse, their lives became entwined.

"Ironic," people would declare. "How can such a friendship exist?"
They couldn't understand how two people, living separate lives, could become so close.

As time continued, and one year rolled into the next, people soon became amazed with this twosome. (There was no other term they could apply which fit as appropriately, or so they felt.)

Not only was this twosome the closest of friends, their families were thriving, and they were working wonders together for their Lord's Kingdom.
The people who once scorned them were now jealous of their success.
Those who once laughed at such a friendship were now shedding tears.

Then, one day, something happened...
The lady was excited but she couldn't quite express herself with the words she knew.

The story goes that she wrote a poem to her close friend, the one who, truly, seemed to understand her through every situation she encountered.

Regrettably, I am unable to provide the words of this poem.
However, as the story was related, she received a poem, from her friend, in response. The words are written below.

I Imagine!
I imagine seeing you
Sitting near a fire.
Sewing scarves, or darning socks;
Filled with peace, yet tired.

Bible sitting somewhere close,
Glasses nearby, too.
A cup of coffee near your hand;
Looking somewhat blue.

All because you cannot see
A brother you once met.
Don't you worry-can't you see?
You're too hard to forget!

Place a smile upon your face.
Your family gets a kiss.
Just remember, sister, dear,
It's you I really miss.

I wonder what the lady could have written to provoke such a simple, yet powerful, response?
